I’m not crazy... I’m nesting.

We have hit week 34 and I’m pooched.

I met with our OB/GYN today. Everything looks, sounds and feels great. No general concerns. Basically, we’re on the home stretch now. Last week of work, and then I’m on vacation before my mat leave officially starts. No exciting news - no fun mail - no contest winnings (although I have entered a few, I’m just now following them as insanely as my last one which took over my life for nearly a month).

I think this describes my mental state these days... Enjoy!

I won again!

This was an easy one - but it goes to show you that my life now revolves around diapering my child for as cheap as I possibly can.

3. Step 3 - Get discontinued diaper via snail-mail. Only problem was that I didn’t get to pick the colour... so throw some more pink into my closet!

After a month of harassing friends and finally, I finally won the 
3 Little Monkeys Photo Contest with a whopping 164 entries!

What did I win?
I thought it was $200 of cloth diapers and accessories - ended up being a VERY expensive bag, with an AppleCheeks diaper cover, insert, 4 bamboo wipes and a stroller clip.


My bag? A Petunia Pickle Bottom Touring Tote - I can’t believe how expensive this bag is... basically, I’d never own one if I had to buy it for myself - even if it was on clearance. To put this into perspective... I could have bought 5 of them at Walmart for the same price. Tried to see if I could get money for it... ends up I’d be lucky to get $50. Therefore, I will follow the path of Gwen Stefani and Heidi Klum and will wear this bag proudly. $5 says that I ruin it within the first month... Thanks to all who voted!

Ultrasound 3

I was fortunate to have a student technician who was willingly giving me a play-by-play of what he was looking for and what all the dark spots were. A second technician came in to double check his work and gave him a quick lesson in 3D Ultrasounds... I got to see the baby in 3D for free! :) - but lady couldn’t get a clear enough picture which warranted a print-out. Which is OK - I thought it was creepy.
Everything looks great, Kate weighs 4lbs 6oz - is a small and very hairy baby - She apparently is already sporting a full head of hair. Aside from being VERY camera shy (it took 45 minutes to get this shot) Everything is on track! 8 weeks to go!

New FuzziBunz Order!

Guess what came into the mail for me today... :) More diapers!!! I was only able to get my hands on the lavender and teal daisy diapers. I would have loved to get lime and red as well, but beggers can’t be choosers.

I also got my new Monkey Doodlez swim diapers in Giraffe. Yay!!! My kid’s going to be the cutest kid in the pool. Hands down.

Baby Room Update!

Thank you Microsoft! Since Eli is often getting freebies from Microsoft - we’ve finally scored a nice 4-drawer dresser for Kate.

Her room looks complete! Well, almost... seems like there still needs an area rug or something. Nonetheless, I’m very happy with how well it’s all coming together!

I was so pleased with my last shipment of Monkey Doodlez diapers, that I decided to order a few more from their website. I perused through their Clearance section and selected cute diapers in red, blue and white polka dots, dusty rose, baby blue, and what I thought was a colour called “celery green”.


Unfortunately, my fingers worked faster than my brain and I checked off a box called “Kool Kat”. Apparently, “kool kat” is baby talk for leopard underwear. My first instinct was.. I NEED to return these. Who in their right minds would dress their newborn baby girl in a slightly offensive 70’s inspired print? Then I remembered who her parents were. I am keeping these for comedic purposes. Kate will wear leopard proudly! Here’s a peek at some of the diapers I’ve purchased in the last month or so...

Spoiled!

I was lucky enough to have great co-workers spoil me yesterday. I had a great time with friends and an even greater time doing laundry and ordering Eli around that night.

Thanks to so many people I came home with a carload of baby gear. Here’s a sneak peak of presents I’ve received. More pictures to come...

Garage Sale Shmarage Sale

I set up my tables and started unpacking my boxes. They came as a crowd, and left within minutes... then is started to rain. I repacked everything, and had Mongolian with Roxanne instead. All in all - $75 for a few hours of “work” went into the baby’s piggy bank. I may try to set-up shop again in a few weeks when it’s sunny to see if I can get rid of the last few bits of decent items.

They’ll sit on Used Ottawa until then. My only complaint about the whole event? I put a $50 item down to $10, and it’s still in it’s original packaging - never been opened, and I get haggled to $4.00 - and then asked what it’s used for! Now I remember why I hate strangers...

Weekend Finds

Aside from my amazing purchases from usedottawa.com, note the cow hide diaper, my pink polka-dot diaper (sorry, no image), and bundle of bamboo prefolds, I took the time to run over to the Outgrow Outplay sale at the Louise-Riel Dome in Orleans. Although I found the event to be rather small... I did enjoy my awesome finds! Brand-new oversized and extra-tall baby gate $30. I also found some pretty cute mexx outfits that matched outfits given to me by my cousin. Basically, $40 got me a TON of stuff, and I plan on participating at their next event, and see how my bibs do there. : )

Speaking of bibs, I’m hard at work making my own for once. I’ve put Bibmababy on hold, just to catch up on my own projects. I’m currently refinishing a rocking chair that was shared with my sister and I as kids. It’s unstable and full of paint splotches. I’m hoping to make it look as good as new. Step 1, sanding... Step 2,... “Eli, come and stain this...” Step 3, Take credit for it.

College Fund Already?

We are participating in the Cardinal Creek Community YardSale aka Fundraiser for “Kate” on June 5th, 2010! Time to start collecting coins and throw them in the “In case of emergency” piggy bank. If anyone wants to rid themselves of clutter, make some change and sit on the lawn with Roxane and I are more than welcome to! However, I cannot promise that I will not turn into this woman ;) enjoy!

Oh Oh, I'm getting maternal...

I met with a nice lady by the name of Vicky today at Ottawa Cloth Diapers for a lot of questions that I wasn’t bright enough to answer myself. I did however realize that I DO have a diaper phobia... I refuse to use “pre-folds” because 1. I’m just not that committed and 2. I think it looks trashy. She introduced me to a fun product... Diaper detergent! I picked up another FuzziBunz super cute diaper and couldn’t stop rubbing my face in them. (They’re new - not used.) I honestly wish they made these in adult size. I think I’d sleep better. They’re that soft.

I also discovered Monkey Doodlez. Love them. They look like fun disposables, and are easy to use: velcro on, velcro off and throw in the wash. Downside apparently, they take forever to dry but are preferred by sitters and anyone else not willing to take the time to take diapers apart and use snaps - a no-no for wiggly babies. So for all of you out there whom I will be pawning off baby... I did this for you. The patterns are for me. :)

We're cheap... we use cotton.

Some of you may be aware that Eli and I have decided to take the “environmentally friendly” route. In all honesty, this has nothing to do with how we feel about our children’s future and has everything to do with how poor we are about to be. We’ve decided to use Fuzzi Bunz diapering system . I’m meeting with a lady from Ottawa Cloth Diapers this weekend to see other options available. Who will be cleaning these poopy diapers you ask??? All questions can be directed to Eli.
