The Review - 4 out of 5

I was approached by LUXbutt’s co-owner Natasha in the early summer about possibly testing the new line of LUXbutt organic one size cloth diapers. Having dealt with her before for other baby friendly items (Kael & Kaed Handmade Trendy Baby Things), and loving the excellent customer service and quality of work, I decided to give this one a whirl.

I got my LUXbutt in the mail in October and was soooo excited with what I saw. A cross design of some of my favourite pocket diapers. The clean design of a FuzziBunz, with the trimness of a Charlie Banana. Bonus? It’s made from a super soft, 100% certified organic cotton velour inner layer, and a hemp and micro fleece combo insert!

First thing I noticed (aside from the softness) was the tag on the diaper. They took away the typical washing instructions and replaced it with a fun, friendly laundry reminder instead. This gave me an idea for diaper fortunes! (Patent Pending, haha). “You will find many rewards.”

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the introductory colours. I don’t understand why other companies shy away from black…. This is by far my favourite colour of diaper. It goes with EVERYTHING! Their first collection is named the “Chocolate” collection. These diapers come in White Chocolate (white), Milk Chocolate (brown), and Dark Chocolate (black). I’d like to see some plum, turquoise and ruby colours as their next collection.

I’m a big fan of the extra hip snaps. I am noticing them being more and more popular with diapers since this does help with the dreaded wing drop issue. The tabs are triangular much like the old style FuzziBunz. Personally, I prefer the square tabs of the Charlie Banana, but again, that’s just aesthetics and takes nothing away from the functionality.

The BEST part out of the design was the extra wide elastic in the back which is the first time I’ve seen it in any type of diaper. It helps to sit better on baby, and prevents blow outs. Dad admitted he loved the extra wide pocket for stuffing. There are very few diapers out there that need Mom’s smaller hands to correctly stuff the insert into the pocket.

Typically, I’m not a huge fan of diapers with elastic sizing, I hate them on the FuzziBunz, but really liked them on the Charlie Banana. It took a good 10 minutes to get the sizing just right, however, I’m happy they went the Charlie Banana route, and hid the button sizing inside the diaper rather than have the buttons right up against the skin like the FuzziBunz. The elastic is a little too long – I did mention this concern to LUXbutt, and they assured me that this was only an issue with a few tester diapers and was going to be addressed.

All diapers come with one (1) insert. The inserts are made of thirsty hemp organic cotton fleece & microfiber. It makes the diaper incredibly trim. I wish the insert was about an inch longer. That being said though, one of the very few diaper that withstood my heavy wetter’s overnight test. We usually change her diaper in the middle of the night, but she stayed dry until morning.

All is all, it's a great diaper at a reasonable price. Take advantage of their Black Friday Sale! SHOP NOW!

NOTE: I did not receive any compensation for this review. I purchased the diaper at a discounted price.

Charlie Banana nana nana vs FuzziBunz

(WEB) (FACEBOOK) - 4 out of 5

I am in LOVE. Move over Fuzzibunz I found Charlie Banana. I find the PUL on this diaper exceeds in quality, I love that you get the 2 microfiber inserts (much like the new One-Size Fuzzibunz and elastics on the legs for a custom fit). I love the colour options for this diaper. It's is MUCH like the Fuzzibunz. I just like the fact that I have the option of buying a great pocket diaper from someone else... I've made it known that I'm not buying the new Fuzzibunz being manufactured in China, I find their PUL to be "cheap" and sticky feeling. I find them difficult to stuff. (Look the label, it will tell you where the diaper was made - I prefer the USA and Mexico versions - apparently they will be producing them in Turkey now.)

Charlie Bananas are hard to come by in Canada, but luckily Double K Boutique is selling off the rest of her lot at a discounted price.

Pros:
  • Absorbency - great for regular flow
  • Fit - Trim and sleek under clothes, custom fit with elastics and snaps, perfect fit on my little girl
  • Leaks - no leaks, even with nighttime use
  • Softness - SUPER soft microfleece
  • Drying time - covers take an hour or so
  • Retail price - competitive!!! Can get them on sale for as little as $15 CAD if you're willing to do the hunt. - Can go as high as $24.95 CAD for prints (which are adorable)
  • Insert - you get 2 microfleece inserts, a short and a long
  • Ease of Use - Snaps! and pocket stuffing

Cons:

  • Absorbency - not sure if can withstand a heavy wetter
  • Leaks -no leaks yet - but I'm not using this as a main diaper yet
  • Drying time - new liners take an overnight dry or 15 minutes in the dryer
  • Ease of use - tricky if you have a fidgety baby like mine, but I bribe her with a toy

NOTE: I did not receive any compensation for this review. These opinions are my own. I have purchased these diapers at full price for this review.

Thursday, December 9

My renewed faith in humanity.

Problems with my FuzziBunz. :(

Saturday, November 7 - Took by diapers out of the wash and OH OH!!! The PUL separated from the liner. :( Hope they live up to their warranty...

Monday, November 9 - FuzziBunz will take their diapers back, but I need to find receipts. :s... Found 1 receipt, but can't find the one for the blue dots. Breaks my heart to part with these. They are my favourite prints!

Tuesday,
November 10 - Good news!!! FuzziBunz stood behind their product. Must ship without inserts to save on cost.

Wednesday, November 11 - They have been shipped for replacement. So far, I am really impressed with their customer service! Thanks FuzziBunz for making this easy!

2 weeks later...
Tuesday, November 29 - I got an email today. FedEx return shipment. Woooo!!!!

Monday, December 6 - Got my new FuzziBunz! Granted I lost my favourite print to an unfortunate manufacturing defect,... BUT My return was hassle free, and they were kind enough to send me 2 packs of wipes along with my new diapers (Choco Truffle and Cotton Candy) WITH new inserts! I must admit that I was a little scared since I've had issues with other CD companies (who shall remain nameless) where they didn't live up to their so-called warranties. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND FUZZIBUNZ! GREAT PRODUCT, AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE! I will definitely be sticking with them once Kate moves up to the next size. Keep up the good work FzBz!

Freebie they sent - FuzziBunz® Wonder Wipes – Organic Cotton / Fleece Double sided wipes – 10 Pack
They are made with 100% organically grown cotton on one side and luxurious quick clean up fleece on the other. Use one side to wipe up the mess, and the other to wipe baby nice and clean. Each wipe is 9in. x 9in.

Fuzzibunz Review

Fuzzibunz - 4 out of 5
(WEB) (BLOG) (FACEBOOK)
Retails for $19.00-$24.00 CAD

I am going to start out by saying we tried out several versions of the FuzziBunz. Kate is short and skinny for her age, which made the sizing chart useless for us. We had to test out the diapers on her once a week until she finally seemed to fill them out without too many gaps. This review will be done in three parts : Older version of Perfect-Sized FuzziBunz (triangle tabs), Newer Perfect-Sized FuzziBunz, Newer One-Size FuzziBunz. What attraced me to FuzziBunz? A suggestions from a local retailer, but mostly the Mom reviews... Let's get this party going!

I started my stash with FuzziBunz because I read many reviews while I was pregnant, claiming these were one of the best. Invented in 1999, they change every few years become better and better, fixing their quirks. I was a little skeptical at the beginning (but that's because we were fixed on what the sizing charts claimed she should wear...) I put them away and went back to my other small diapers. I came across a woman who was ridding herself of her stash and I ended up buying the older version of the FuzziBunz at a RIDICULOUS price. I now had an extra 10 diapers in my stash which I wasn't quite a fan of to begin with. I soon realized that the rise on the older diapers were quite shorter... which meant Kate finally had a FuzziBunz that didn't double up as a romper!

It fit her baby butt in a nice trim way. No bulk! I was able to drop back down in her pant size... something that I can't do with any of her other diapers... These diapers were previously used by 2 other babies... they are still absorbent 1 out of the 1- had staining which I put out for a day to sunbathe and is back to new. I did notice that the inserts weren't as absorbent as the new ones.. so I opted to buy new inserts (which still made these diapers a steal for me - they were THAT cheap). These are now some of our favourite daytime diapers there's still a bit of room in the thighs, but no blowouts. Thumbs up. I sold off my Large sizes that came along with my steal of a stash and took the money to buy new size smalls which brings me to theewer Perfect-Sized FuzziBunz diaper. Woa woa woaaaa... these don't fit. The rise goes up to her nipples. but fit her legs. I read reviews on this and apparently it was because of complaints that pants were tucking into the diaper at the waist. I never had this issue, so I didn't realize it was a problem. I think they'll fit great once she grows a bit more... I got a shorty on my hands! Pro? I LOVE LOVE LOVE the new prints!!!! They introduced beautiful vibrant colours and limited edition prints which is what keeps me coming back for more... I'm a sucker. I realized that there was a cheaper option out there... and that's the one-size version. I was skeptical because of other companies that offered one-size: bulky and loose on the legs, or fit the thighs but left red marks. What's different about the FuzziBunz one-size? The adjustable elastic in the legs.... Brilliant. Bonus? They're replaceable. You not only adjust the waist, but you can also adjust the legs. The fit is snug and we've only had 1 leak... my bf realized that legs needed to be tightened and now these are HIS favourite. I am really please no real complaints, but I'm always open minded to try new diapers - but they do rank up there. I like that there is no flap on the pocket easy dump into the diaper pail. Washing is easy, and drying is fast.

The one con I can think of is that the "stuffing" does intimidate caregivers,... but it's a quick learn. A monkey could do it. I've tried many diapers and FuzziBunz Perfect Size ranks on top of my favourites list. I LOVE that they actually have a warranty of their diaper!

Pros:
  • Absorbency - good for regular flow
  • Fit - Trim and sleek under clothes. Older version is great for a short torso, newer version apparently is a favourite among other moms.
  • Leaks - no leaks with the new version - used 2 liners for nighttime though
  • Softness - SUPER soft microfleece - even after wash and line dry.
  • Drying time - covers take an hour or so
  • Retail price - competitive!!! Can get them on sale for as little as $14.95 if you're willing to do the hunt.
  • Insert - microfleece, very absorbent
  • Ease of Use - Snaps! No velcro issues in the dryer

Cons:
  • Absorbency - not ideal for a heavy wetter - I sometimes add an extra liner for nightime use if I'm out of my favourite nighttime diaper but does lead to a BULKY BULKY butt.
  • Fit - Wasn't great for Kate until her legs got a little chunkier - the One-size with an elastic leg band was a WAY better fit o the legs... but too fit for her tummy.
  • Leaks -Suffered 1 leak... realized afterward that the liner was an old skinny and seen it's days liner. Once I changed it to a new liner... no leaks!
  • Softness - no issues here!
  • Drying time - new liners take an overnight dry - old liners (they're thin) take a couple of hours max - but aren't as absorbent.
  • Insert - doesn't come with a booster, need to use a second liner for heavy wetters
  • Ease of use - a little more challenging with a kicker... snaps are strong... one of my diapers has a sticky snap.

New FuzziBunz Order!

Guess what came into the mail for me today... :) More diapers!!! I was only able to get my hands on the lavender and teal daisy diapers. I would have loved to get lime and red as well, but beggers can’t be choosers.

I also got my new Monkey Doodlez swim diapers in Giraffe. Yay!!! My kid’s going to be the cutest kid in the pool. Hands down.
What’s on the agenda this week? New ultrasound. Stay tuned for new pictures of Kate!

Oh Oh, I'm getting maternal...

I met with a nice lady by the name of Vicky today at Ottawa Cloth Diapers for a lot of questions that I wasn’t bright enough to answer myself. I did however realize that I DO have a diaper phobia... I refuse to use “pre-folds” because 1. I’m just not that committed and 2. I think it looks trashy. She introduced me to a fun product... Diaper detergent! Website is really cute... www.nelliesallnatural.com.

I picked up another FuzziBunz super cute diaper and couldn’t stop rubbing my face in them. (They’re new - not used.) I honestly wish they made these in adult size. I think I’d sleep better. They’re that soft.

I also discovered Monkey Doodlez. Love them. They look like fun disposables, and are easy to use: velcro on, velcro off and throw in the wash. Downside apparently, they take forever to dry but are preferred by sitters and anyone else not willing to take the time to take diapers apart and use snaps - a no-no for wiggly babies. So for all of you out there whom I will be pawning off baby... I did this for you. The patterns are for me. :)

We're cheap... we use cotton.

Some of you may be aware that Eli and I have decided to take the “environmentally friendly” route. In all honesty, this has nothing to do with how we feel about our children’s future and has everything to do with how poor we are about to be. We’ve decided to use Fuzzi Bunz diapering system . I’m meeting with a lady from Ottawa Cloth Diapers this weekend to see other options available. Who will be cleaning these poopy diapers you ask??? All questions can be directed to Eli.
Allison prompted me to do a search for anything relating to cotton diapers in the Ottawa-Gatineau area. Here is my list.
